Wasn't he talking about competing in Club Pro next season? Is that off the cards or is he looking to enter with a different car?

He'll be entering in one of the Pro classes driving the ex AMD BTCC Golf, for his sponsor Airtec. He was going to keep the cossie for Ford events and trackdays.

Looks good mate, though (and I'm purely playing devils advocate here) could this potentially start creeping into the realms of what Time Attack is 'not' about?

To expand on that I mean isn't TA all about taking your road car and building it/developing it into the best track car that you can for the budget that you have available? If you go out and just buy an ex pro build/works car, then unless you're rebuilding it from a shell and developing it yourself (which of course Ronnie may be doing?) then you're kind of skipping the 'home built' aspect of TA and potentially opening the flood gates for taking it to extreme levels.




Please don't get me wrong I think this ex BTCC car being entered in Time Attack is a positive thing and will add a little something extra to the mix, and lets face it, the cars competing in Time Attack across the globe have improved ten fold in recent years and in some cases have surpassed the performance capabilities of some professional works cars driven in various professional racing series.

The Time Attack cars are constantly improving (and at a rapid rate of knots!!) just look at 2013 WTAC for proof of that, but where do you draw the line?

It may be that pro cars should (depending on the cars capabilities) be limited to the higher classes of TA rather than Club Challenge and Club Pro.




An unrealistic example granted but a big pot of money would buy you a JRM GT1 car and all of the tuition, seat time and pit lane technical support that you could ever want

I'm with you on that line of thinking. So far all these ex race cars have all entered in the pro classes. This year the car that won Pro 2WD was a Porsche 964 from the Carrera Cup series.

Personally I dont see the point in buying an ex race car to compete in TA, surely that would take away some of glory of any achievements as people will just say, 'cause you won, you've got a race car the rest are road cars'.

TA seems such a flexible series (in certain respects) that this kind of thing is inevitable. Sure, it differs from how I saw the event developing and I dare say it's strayed from the original concept but the competitor numbers have stayed high and varied, so I guess that makes it successful.

Whatever happens this season, my money is on the APT & RossSport developed Evo 6 doing pretty damned well.

The APT/Ross Sport what/who/class?

I'm sure the details will come out in due course and maybe I've jumped the gun with saying something.......one thing for sure is that they only do things properly, and they only want to win.

Off to do some snooping and get that surveillance camera set up.
