Wanted work horse!

The little fiesta van should be off on thur all being well so i need another work horse but what, has to be practical do 40+ MPG with a top price tag of 2.5K but what????????

Mk4 golf gttdi 60 mpg on a run, comfortable
And fairly nippy for an oil burner
Small one's are more juicy

Been looking at those trev and end up getting side tracked looking at silver anniversary edition more like 6k not 2k.
