My friend and I have owned this track car since February 2008 where it started life as a standard 328i Sport in Boston Green. Over the period since the car was bought it has been steadily stripped of unnecessary weight and modified in all the right areas to produce a strong, safe, fast and above all, reliable track car that is cheap to maintain.

Engine

A Dave F induction kit, Alpina527 big bore throttle body and M50 inlet manifold and a performance chip have been installed. The car was dyno'd with 174 bhp at the wheels, or 210-220 at the flywheel.

Body, Interior and Chassis

All the original interior was removed including all the sound proofing and a six point weld in rollcage was designed and fitted by SHP Motorsport of Ely in Cambridge. SHP Motorsport are highly regard in racing circles and not only design and build rollcages, but also the cars for two different spaceframe race car championships. SHP also manufactured custom subframes to mount two brand new Corbeau Sprint XL (wider fitment) side mount bucket seats via alloy side mounts. The sunroof was also welded in. The car has two FIA approved 4 point 3" harnesses.

The suspension and brakes were then tended to with GAZ GGA coilovers, Brembo Max discs (new front set to be fitted for sale) and Performance Friction 01 compound race pads (current set done ONE track day). The car also sports solid, eccentric, rose jointed front suspension top mounts. Over the course of a number of track days the geometry, ride height and spring rates were optimised. The current spring rates are 650lb front, 500lb rear. The car runs standard anti roll bars since there is no need for uprated bars with these spring rates.

The car is wearing 4 Hankook RS2 trackday tyres in 225/45/17 size with plenty of grip remaining and also comes with 3 part worn Kumho V70A trackday tyres and 2 part worn Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres. Spares also include a brand new coil pack and used Performance Friction brake pads.

During the winter of 2008 the car underwent further weight reduction, a tidy up of the interior with stainless steel doorcards and footplates and a full respray in BMW Laguna Seca Blue. Fibreglass aero was added - a high rise boot spoiler and racing splitter as used in the Kumho race championship. The car currently weighs 1200 kgs with a full tank of fuel.

Performance

The car, in our not so experienced hands, has managed 8:24 BTG at the Nurburgring, 1:46.8 at Cadwell and 2:20 at Silverstone. This should give you an idea of the performance and handling on offer. Search youtube for my username - swtmerce - for videos of many of the trackdays we have done in the car since purchase.

Price

The car is well sorted and good to go. The price is

A truly fantastic car :) Were it not for your plans (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) I would say you are mad to sell it on.
A quick question;

1) Is this still road legal? (Tax, MOT and V5 etc)

Hi Stuart. The car is SORN'd and I've no idea whether it is MOTable. My guess is no mainly because there's no heater/windscreen demister.

Thanks Tommy

I thought this may be of interest to potential buyers. The issue of no heater for the front screen is very easily solved though mate.
