They are about the safest car you can ever be in in a crash. FIA spec real roll hoop in the car as standard, compsote front crash structure like an F1 car, and you sit in the middle of an all alluminium tub with large alluminium crash beams around you. They are built from bonded alluminium and composites using aerospace derived technology, not archaic spot welded steel like most cars.
Small and light does not always mean weak.
