Richard Burns Relay - May 2006

Post by duncan »

Copied from old post on another site

Just got back from this and can only say one thing... absolutely awesome :D

Met up with the rest of the Cambridgeshire lot at the Services on the A1 - 10 Cambridgeshire Scoobs in total and headed down to South Mimms to meet up with Herts & Oxfordshire Scoobies. That place was heaving with scoobies (about 50) and that was before we joined the main convoy !!!

Got a call from the main convoy saying that they were running slightly ahead of schedule, so after a brief stop there to chat with the guys and girls we joined the M25 for the main convoy.

The main M25 run was supposed to be at about 65-70 mph but strayed a little over that as numerous cars overtook with passengers videoing and taking pictures of the cars involved. Three lanes of scoobies with drivers and passengers smiling for as long as the eye could see was sooooooo cool and a fitting way to celebrate the life of Richard Burns.

The rain started shortly after we hit the M40 but the excitement was not dampened. As we were still running ahead of schedule we pulled into the services on the M40 to kill some time and give the opportunity for more chatting with the complete convoy and photos.

To say that the services were a little swamped in scoobies is an understatement - there were wall to wall imprezas of all shapes of sizes with inevitable flaming and loud noises. I believe over 130 were counted here!!

Once sufficient time was killed we toddled on up to Prodrive to meet up with the Midland scoobies and Cheshire lot (making well over 200 scoobies there) for a tour of the premises and a look around the workshop where Petter and Chris's cars were in being prepped for the next rally along with seeing Colin Mcrae's WRC winning classic and the BAR Honda of Jenson.

for those that werent there... you should have been :)

That looked like a fantastic meet and a fantastic tribute. All this scooby talk is making me want another one - now that two different cars to try and convince jo she wants .. she wants an S2000 - but I think she needs an Rx7 or now a Scooby.

I could only dream of having premises like that to tinker on a car. If only I'd won the euro millions.
