TOTB 2008

Post by Fast Eddy »

I am sure a few of us are going to this.
I keep missing it for various reasons, but promise myself to make it this year.
Who's going and does anyone want to go as a group?

....and I'd rather shove wasps up my arse.

The whole event is poor in my opinion. Sorry to be a party pooper. Like Gary, I did TOTB and TOTB II and called it a day at that. My appearance on the TOTB II video can still be seen on Men and Motors, that's how over-commercialised it is.

As i said, i had never been but thought it was a nice to way to see some of the top cars in the country being pushed hard.
Can't the commercial/chav side just be ignored?

How is TOTB any more commercial than TA?

I went a couple of years ago and it seemed more about the competitors and there cars than commercial interests.

Absolutely.

Commercial or not, it is still something that I want to go to (or even compete at if I can get on a team)

Been three years on the trot and it the most Un-Commercialized event of the year free to walk the pits and get close to the action no chavs and not much fanny either (shame). Even the car park is full of top quality motors. The one point to make its more a dangerous event than chav or commercial one. Have stood at the end of the top speed run with cars hitting close to 200mph no more than 30ft away and seen bits flying of the cars landing closer than that. I had to flag down cars personally to stop them running over a scooby bonnet at 120+. I believe the bus to the end of the top speed run doesn

I'm attending this (wedding reception the night before not withstanding :drunk: ). Eddy, i will be leaving from Norwich, what time are you thinking of setting out? I believe the action starts around 10?

I went to this 2 years ago and there were only a few traders there and not many promo girls :( so wouldn't call it that commercial really as the competition for the events is serious. As already said the pits were open to all and the array of machinery to look at was deffo worth the 440 mile round trip.

My moans would be the lack of decent scoff on offer and the fact that there was one measly temporary grandstand (full from 9 in the morning til the racing finished) at the start of the strip so all spectating had to be done from ground level. Also the PA announcements were hard to hear as i remember.

cheers
