Your MOT is only worth the paper it's written on the minute it's printed. The very next day it's no protection at all of any expectation of roadworthiness. (There is some come back, but good luck proving it)
The VDR you refer to is a direction by 5-0 to have it checked and signed off by an MOT garage to their competence that the car does not have the fault they officer has reported. It's a subjective test, and the MOT do not have to agree with the officers comments, only attest to the fact the car does not exhibit a fault in the described area.
It does depend on what you got the notice for, but loads can happen to a car within a month, and again if the garage are happy with it this time and stamp the notice then it's PED 1- Old bill 0
