what a waste of a day!

today has been pretty much a wasted day for me :(

i originally planned to have today off* in order to fit the much needed supra turbo, then i thought better of it and decided to fix the broken heater matrix instead. luckily, a friend of mine has a scrapper celica ST162 lying around the farm, so i got his permission to attack it and swop the matrix from that with my broken one.

it took about 2 hours to remove the heater matrix, so job done and i went home for some dinner and to pressure test it, just to be sure. lo and behold if the new matrix isnt spraying water out of the pipe unions too! damn things :( im now resigned to the fact ill have to get a small electrical heater and remove the duff matrix from my car. i suppose overall i will save a few hundred grams of weight.

in other news, i ordered some new T1-R tyres for my new lightweight track wheels, which will allow for the 312mm brakes to go on when they are ready in a few weeks.

its not all crap today, just mostly ;)

*aside from getting a phonecall at 0830 asking if i could help fit some railings.

I can see you now kicking it around - nothing worth though than finding the replacement is snafu - I remember changing a radiator only to find the new one I fitted was holed!.

Heater matrix is a crap job to do on any car...not fun on the Rex.

Hope you get it sorted mate, nightmare.

Be interested in hearing how you get on with the T1Rs. Thats the Toyo Proxes right ? Looking at getting some myself.

thanks for your words of "encouragement" guys ;)
i have been using the T1-R's for the past year, and the S tyres before that. the S had a really weak tyrewall which resulted in a set of dead tyres in a 7 minute long (albeit REALLY) track session

the R's are damn good, lots of grip in all conditions and quite capable track tyres. make no mistakes, they arent as grippy as the 888's due to the amount of tread but theyre still nice :) and for 200 quid a set (215/40/16) you cant really go wrong :)
