While I'm in a rare "i've got time to spend posting loads" moment I thought i'd start this thread..

Just returned from South Africa having had, as i do every year, an absolutely stunning drive on amazing roads and wishing I was in something really special.

It always gets me thinking how great it is driving on really good roads and what makes them special. This is especially true as for me the roads local to me that I've always "used" are now almost always clogged with traffic so those "moments" are almost non existent nowdays (although I do live in north london).

My nomination is the R43 along the garden route in South africa. I tried it this year instead of my usual route and was just blown away. While the amazing scenery was just that, the road itself is something else, Hairpin ridden passes up and down mountains and then straights that go on literally further than you can see and nothing else - no cops, no side roads, literally nothing! I thought some of the roads in scotland were incredible but this was just the best ever.

I longed to have a lambo or similar (think my GTR may have been a bit of a liability) but even the rented C class merc was making me grin, although more from maxing it on the straights than the corners!!

Anyway, here are some pics, be good to hear other peoples faves which are hopefully more accessible for a blast than mine!!

A lot closer to home........the B1077 from Diss to deepest Suffolk. Fast, flowing, corner after corner and about 45 minutes from start to finish. Watch out for the 30 zones though. They are heavily monitored.

Drove the Col du Turini and Petit St Bernard pass last summer both were stunning roads and views

ahh, knew this would happen, routes from the ring, col du turini, I can see a Euro blast forming in my little brain......, might start with stu's suggestion as a bit closer to home

Christian, your best bet would be to go from your Dad's, up the A12 towards Ipswich. You can pick up the B1077 once you get to the Copdock roundabout near Tescos. The B1077 is 24 miles from Copdock to Eye and takes in great bends, hills and crests, dips and blind corners; all with a massive variance in grip levels.

The road leading from the A12 heading for Sizewell would be great fun if it wasn't nearly all 30's

There's some nice bends heading out of Halesworth towards Harleston, shame they only last about 1 mile

When you get to Eye just keep going, take the B1117 to Halesworth then the B1123 to Harleston.....you will not be disappointed:sifone:

One that just sprung to mind is the road that runs directly behind Rockingham raceway. We found it by mistake after missing a turning, only problem was my bro was driving miss daisy

Bit of a trek for us locals though!
