Turbo went in the biggest cloud of smoke I've ever seen, so:

Need a work hack.
Estate probably best.
Economical so tdi or dual fuel,
Bit of go.
Possibly capable of towing
Missed a Legnum on ebay tonight,

Suggestions welcomed :)

Suggestions?
Yeah, don't buy another Citroen.

Always tough to know this without knowing a budget mate but the short list would be

Volvo V70

Audi A6 estate
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-04-Audi-A6-A ... 286.c0.m14
VW Passat estate

Vauxhall Vectra/Signum

Signum

All of the above can do starship mileage and are fundamentally strong and reliable.

Or plan B

Buy a cheap non-estate car for day to day stuff and hire an estate when you need it :)

I don't need a Citroen anymore :(

Rob'r suggestion looks pretty good being LPG and it should have a bit of go in it. Any idea of MPG on those things?

Something for Citroen money would be good. The estate, hire idea ien't really practical.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

That LPG converted Volvo looks good. LPG is still half the price of petrol so there's got to be some mileage in that. Even short term.

edited to add: I've just had a quick look and found a link for LPG stations UK wide. There are hundreds of them so you're never very far away from one and certainly a few near and in Bedford. Duel fuel and extended journeys...fantastic!!

Thanks Bob. Despite my saying Citroen money, I need to get something a little newer and hopefully reliable. Definitely off French. :)

Rob's suggestion is looking very good and the half price LPG is very tempting.

I have found a couple of ex-police V70s that appeal to the slightly less sensible in me :D

The v70 xc is a nice car I had a petrol one just over a year ago and used to get about 23 mpg around town and about 35mpg on a run. I only changed it because i felt it was too nice for what I wanted. Couldn't just throw car bits in the back worried about oil and damage.

I bought my Frontera as a work horse for the track car paid

The ex-job V70 often have the 302mm brake upgrades and uprated suspension.
They are however, thrashed often, and crashed sometimes. You get an interesting array of dash and roof holes too. TBH, they are nt cheap unless you get them from auction...
The Cross Country is an LPT 2.5, so is nt stressed overly, and should do 25mpg on Petrol, which is about 40-45mpg on gas (equivalent obviously)
They make great towcars due to their weight.

I'll lob another suggestion in if it isn't too late - try a Skoda Octavia Estate TDI - yes I did say Skoda! -

It is basically a VW Golf/Bora - the VAG TDI lump is great as long as you get it serviced on time - case in point my old rattle bus on a 51 plate she now has 237k on the clock and is still going strong - she has cost me a grand total of about
