Any advice on Le Mans please?

Am off this year and wondered if anyone had any good tips -
I'll be coming up from the south of Europe. We have passed close to the venue a few times now so know roughly where it is but any hints on which entrance to take, etc appreciated.
Is it worth going to the parade thing in the town and watching the practice or just better to go for the race itself?
Im planning to park the car and camp near the track (don't want to be remote and have to get a bus from the site all the time so where would be the best place to be within resonable walking distance of good track views. We're not interested in grandstand seating and will be staying in a tent.
Are disposable barbies allowed and is there a no glass policy. We're not bothered if the facitilities are a bit shite - we've been to Santa pod for planty of weekends before so are used to 3rd world conditions....
Any advice much appreciated
cheers
