Blackys musings and ramblings...

Well, I'm sure a lot of you are bored of me harping on about Subaru's and Evo's and which ones better etc, but I thought I would just write down a few thoughts from my last few days....as I have the Subaru at work with me this week driving it everyday!

Its a mental car the RA, not great on the motorway thats for sure, noisy!! Very Noisy! But my thoughts are from having the pleasure of driving both recently are
:
1. The Evo is kinda like a German, efficient, just gets on with the job and gets it done, no fuss, no hassle, and then kinda says to you (if cars could talk!!) "Is that it, come on give me some more!!" But maybe it lacks a little soul.

2. The Subaru - its maybe not as robust, but its got a certain something to it, more soul and character maybe! Even tho its had me in the depths of despair with fixing it, driving it again, running it in, its like a new set of underpants - first of all you feel restricted and slighty uncomfortable, worried about chafing! Then as they wear in and you can move more freely and become to feel part of you, Like this week where I'm slowly using more boost etc in the car and it has me smiling again, driving with the window down to here the off beat warble and pops and bangs on the overrun!!

What I do know is that both are excellent in their own ways....and I would recommend both to anyone looking for hairdried up Japbox! Both came from a favourite era for me in Rallying.

*FIN*

:-D but you still haven't out and out said which you prefer, I had an MY99 which at the time I thought was an amazing car .. till it bit me 3 times and had me visiting the undergrowth with it's blumming understeer - don't over cook turns !! ..

But I could never go back to a scooby after driving the GTR - a sublime heavy monster that comes alive when you hit snetterton ... from punch drunk ex prize fighter to feather weight bantam at the touch of the throttle. Even after 17 years and 60,000 miles the car still feels tight and joined together - but then are there actually any parts that have done more than 5000 miles on it .. lol .. I think not.

LOL at the pants analogy :-D

They are indeed f.loud on the motorway ... my standard STi (version 4) was a better car in that respect.

Ben - you don't say which MY99 you had, but I'm guessing it didn't have the adjustable centre diff with its 34/66 power split, and maybe you didn't have it carefully set up? RA/type R is a different animal to the 50/50 split 'standard' classic scoob. The standard scoob can be made to handle; my '95 used to do 58sec round Brands Hatch Indy, and that was before I junked the standard 2-pot front brakes :o And, have you tried the Skyline round Cadwell, Oulton or Donington?

Mine was a completely standard UK spec MY99 - only mod being the later WRX alloys and a bigger Prodrive spolier.

Ah yes, I suppose I should drive a standard one, out of interest, one day :-D

You also need to remember that Ben can't drive ;)

Logan, my old buddy. My opinion is this;

We humans are funny sorts, we like quirks and idiosynchrasies. We seem to forgive failings in people and objects as the above and therefore something that falls to bits is touted as being 'full of character' whilst something that seems honed from solid granite 'is dull' :)

It's been suggested before mate. I think you need to look at what you want from driving. If it's fun with speed, maybe you could consider something rear wheel drive. If you simply want more fun from one of your existing pair, get a proper sump for the Impreza and get on with it.

I know you love the dependability of the Evo and the way it does what it says on the tin, but if you never feel genuinely engaged by it, sell the bugger. Life is short :)

PS- please stop posting threads about Lancer vs Scoob. You're getting worse than EVO magazine a few years ago :)

Yup, I supose thats what I was saying...its weird how something can piss you off so much then you'll forgive it in a heartbeat as it got character.

Wasn't meant to whine on Stu, was kinda just a snap shot of my thought this week...as I haven't really driven the car in a year!
