How we build a car

Now that the rebuild of the engine is finally underway and now under our control I thought I would give you an insight into us and how we work. Due to me being hit hard by the current economic climate we have to change to plans several times already. Inspite of this we still want to push the car forward so Alan has truely upped his game, not only has he been helping and supporting me through what has been and still is a very difficult time for me but he has also taken on all the planning of the re build and will be doing about 95% of the work himself.

Below is part copy of the list and schedule that Alan has drawn up and emails me additions almost everyday.




SUNDAY 2ND DECEMBER

Alan
1Test fit cosworth prop shaft.
2.Make up template for new waste gate pipe.
3.mark up left and right hubs, drive shafts, brake discs


Paul
1.dismantle front suspension
2.take hub off shock absorber
3.remove drive shafts
4.make the tea
5.make dinner

FRIDAY 5TH DECEMBER

1.Take heads over to cylinder heads company
2.questions
3.1. whats the turn around from start to finish
4.2. how much for exhaust valves to be ported
5.3. benefits of ported valves
6.3b how much will be ported out
7.4. cost on sump being baffled
8.5. turn around on sump
9.6.


SAT/SUN 6TH 7TH DECEMBER

10.remove starter motor
11.see company about head conversion
12.clean up sandwich plates
13.disconnect heater pipe from bulk head
14.clean shed out ready for engine to be put in. (work bench needed)
15.disconnect engine from gear box
16.lower engine out of engine bay
17.start stripping engine apart and inspect.
18. check timing on crank and cam cogs that its correct (line dots together.)
19.remove front diff off sump


SAT/SUN 13TH 14TH DECEMBER

1.continuation of stripping the engine and inspection
2.pistons to be cleaned up and inspected and rings
3.parts to be cleaned at a jet was, cross member, sump, block, crank case cover,
4.order new piston rings and piston clamp
5.order bottom gasket set (money pending)
6.clean up compression plates (PAUL)



SAT/SUN 20TH 21ST DECEMBER

WORKING

SAT/SUN 27TH 28TH DECEMBER

1.sort out drivers for Paul seating position
2.repair sapphire cozzy bumper
3.lightening of bonnet
4.work out oil cooler fittings and fit

SAT/SUN 3RD 4TH JANUARY

5.if piston rings have arrived refit pistons
6.(PAUL) order subary sump sealant
7.replace oil pick up pipe for dizzy (no ring)

SAT/SUN 10TH 11TH JANUARY
My birthday old git but work must carry on.

SAT/SUN 17TH 18TH JANUARY

8.order felpro head gasket from burton
9.collect heads back from cylinder head performance
10.refit manifold to cylinder head


SAT/SUN 24TH 25TH JANUARY
1.refit bottom end back into car
2.retest fit the cosworth front propshaft
3.refit turbo to manifold (exhaust paste required)

SAT/SUN 31ST 1ST FEUARY
WORKING
4.order graphics from cousin
5.order graphics from ebay
6.send shocks off for recondition


SAT/SUN 7TH 8TH FEBUARY

1.rebuild top end of engine
2.

SAT/SUN 14TH 15TH FEBUARY

1.start to refit power steering
2.alternator, radiator etc

SAT/SUN 21ST 22ND FEBUARY
WORKING

SAT/SUN 28TH 1ST MARCH

CAR FINISHED NO LATER THAN THIS DATE FOR PRE SEASON TESTING. Graphics not compulsory to be fitted but old must be taken off


Alan raining days/ weeks at work and additions

2.repair sapphire bumper
3.lighten bonnet (mark up cutting marks)
4.new air intake system
5.modify race seat rails
6.fit new fuel tank and piping




faults found with the engine

1.very little sump sealant
2.front crank case at sides leaking
3.front crank case pulley seal leaking
4.pistons under sized by

i never cut corners mate as thats when problems happen and we carnt be dealing with
the problems we have had over the last 2 years of which i have found out
from stripping down the engine.

i used to larf at pauls list when he used to tell me them, but because i am dislexic they really
are a good thing to have cant forget things that are on paper :-D

Cheers guys....there'll be a lot of scratching before this is done :) . As long as we complete jobs off the list every weekend we should be ok.
