What do I do? :?
First thing is I have to rebuild my current engine and get he car running again, as its worth next to nothing broken. But further than that I am not sure how to progress.
A. Do I spend more cash in trying to safe gaurd any further issues and keep the car?
B. get it rebuilt, and try out maybe an Evo or something else whilst mine is getting rebuilt. I am wondering whether I am too emotionally attched to teh car as I have spend so much time and effort working on it, at he end of the day its 8 yr old car and things move on/develop, so would a newer Evo or maybe even a Spec Impreza be better??
C. My old man has loads of Mini bits from his rallying days and is keen to build another but doesn't want to do it alone, so should i sack off these tubro Jp Boxes and get a nice road car and go down this route.
Only niggle in my head with spending more money and keeping the car is the thought in my head everytime I line up at the start line of is this car going to brake, will this effect my driving :?:
Sorry if this is a boring post, just needed to get it out of my head, and see if anyone has any useful thoughts.
Car Dilemna
I immediately thought the EVO would be within your dilemma, it's a hard one, as in reality you could easily be in the same boat with a different car.
The only way I would decide is based on when your Scoob is running do you enjoy it, does it do everything you want it too?. If not, then get yourself to a stage so that it can be sold, if you were to downgrade it and sell on the upgrades would you be in a position to buy an equally specced Evo?.
I think most of all you will miss the kick of a turbo, whenever I drive non turbo cars I wonder where the power is and what must be wrong with each NA car.

FWIW, I think your thought processes are quite normal. Unless you have money to burn you're going to have these worries. The only way to get shot of them is give up on motorsport, buy a nice little road car and think how much you used to enjoy yourself when you had a Subaru.
I think also, if you're a worrying type, you'll always find something to stress you out regardless, I know I do and some people thrive on and actually need a certain level of worry. Probably a throwback from earlier times.
I don't think the car's age is an issue. Evos have problems when pushed as do all cars and mechanical devices. Expecting something to break is quite normal too. In the higher echelons of the sport engines, gearboxes etc. are rebuilt every few events to minimise unreliability but even then, things happen.
Just get on with it, fit a set of shells and baffle the sump, but not with that Cosworth windy thing

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!
Cheers for your thoughts chaps.
My main issue is that when problems occur with the Impreza engine its atomatically loats of cash as it has to come out and block split in 2. whereas the engine is loads easier as its an inline 4. And as a whole the engines seem to be more robust.
Even the newer aged Imprezaas seem to be a lot better at not blowing up. Just now looking at a Spec C, but then again thinking, its just a newer version of mine so wil it give me as many issues.
All I know is I enjoy Sprinting and want to be competitive, I don't neccessary want to modify my car, I suppose I have fallen into it thro various factors.
I think I will go try out an Evo and a newer Spec C just to see how it compares to mine, get some perspective on it.
As for the Mini idea, I don't think i would enjoy it so much, as I love the speed and handling of these 4wd tin tops.
The other option is to buy a Formula Ford and go racing.........probably as much fun if not more than Sprinting.
Whats the most gutting is I was fully revved up to have a good crack at the Sprint Championships and now all the wind has been knocked out of my sails.....

If your going to get despondent each time something goes pop, give up. Failure is the nature of the beast.blacky wrote:Cheers for your thoughts chaps.

Minis are great fun. Many years ago I had a Mini 7 Formula 850 full race prep and carted it about on a trailer. Unfortunately, the engine blew and after all the rebuilding cost couldn't afford to use it so, gave up. Always longed to get back to some form of motorsport but money was always a problem. Then the last couple of years when I'm too old to leave it any longer I thought Feck It!
Well prepped 1293 Minis would often get FTD at sprints.
The choice of car is endless but they all require commitment, particularly financial.

Another possibility. Get a new, new car, leave it standard, go do your sprints and if you break it, take it back on warranty.

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!
Yup, reckon it would be and lots more time taken up!
Thants why I kinda got into Sprinting as I saw it as an easy sport on my time, but its turning out not that way as the car seem to require constant repair, and its not like a Sprint is inherently hard on a car really is it, flat out for 1 minute at a time!!!
New car for me is financial suicide! Was thinking of something just a few years old. As an aside, had a nosey round a new 08 STI in the carpark at lunch, doesnm't look soo bad in the flesh!

Logan i feel for you my friend we have had a simliar chat last time you motor let go!
As you know i would say get an RS Evo 5 or 6 if you only want 380bhp it will take pleanty of use and all on std internals.
If you want to go for more then as Ross in his 6 shows 700 bhp plus.
Winner of the MLR series last year was knoxville in a 5 RS forged rod conversion running mid 400 blew away cars with 100-200 BHP advantage :-D

Hi Blacky.
I had the same model as youve got in 2001

I think it was the best car I've owned.
I then bought this in 2005 trying to get the same thrills

But it just didn't do it for me....
So I got this...

Which I love. I reckon either forge the Impreza or get an Evo 5 or 6 RS 8)
