illegal window tints

hello
jus been stopped by our friendly traffic officers an they said tinted windows are illegal on front passenger and driver windows and tested them with a gadget which confirmed this he says but on testing the front windscreen also said this was a fail also with no tint .got a 30 quid fine .has or does any one had experience of this and the legalities involved .he also said my insurance would be invalid in the event of an accident .

I would PM PC185 or Rob S on this Mark. I cannot remember the law but those guys will. Unlucky mate..............didn't crash into anything because it was dark out, did you?

That is shit news. I saw that gadget, window suckers to put on each side of the window and measuring the light getting through, on a tv program the other day. I would have thought them to be pretty accurate.
From the bbc, Thursday, 31 May 2007:
"The law states front windows must allow 70% of light through; the front windscreen 75%. "

they told me it must be 85% my side windows only gave a reading of 27% and the front 83% they pulled me at 8.30 in the morn in rush hour traffic .also they popped the boot of the police car to video us with there camera ,probably wanted to fill in some gaps in the next police stop dvd,s ha ha

see on my old sunny my windows only let through about 10% of light i think, luckily since it was summer i had the windows down all the time XD

Just wear dark sunglasses...much better than window tints and you won't get done :lol: 'Maui Jim' anyone!!

i had a buddy this summer who got pulled over for the same stuff, but they gave him a choice to tear it off there on the road or get the ticket, but even after he pulled it off the tester said it was still failing but let him go anyways....
