Taking the easy route

Post by gtst lad »

OK here, in breif, is the story..

I've been doing the same job for just over ten years now, i love it, every days an adventure, it pays a pretty average wage which allows me to mess about with cars etc and i have a good laught, get away with dossing about, going on jollys etc etc

I've been offered another job, with another company doing exactly the same thing but i'll get 13% more money and alot more chances for promotion within the company.

Why am i finding it soooooo hard to take the better paid job :?

It's like your favourite pair of shoes mate,
They are comfy, you know what to expect when you wear them and they even smell like you !!

Ditch it mate and go for the new job with more prospects and more importantly, more money !!!!

I would go for it as there is normally only one thing that drives me and that is money, probably explains why i am such a lazy bastard!!

Take a chance and go for it.

Paul

without blowing smoke up your arse, you're a clever lad who seems happy to work hard. Try the new venture. With your outlook and skills, you have nothing to lose and so much to gain.

It does take guts to change but you should never fear it. Best of luck :thumb:

im not really sure what you do for a living, but if the above is true its not like your not going to find it hard to find another job. thing to do is go for the new job but dont burn your bridges with your current company, incase things go tits up.

the other thing you can do is have a word with your current job and tell them what you have been offerd and see if they can do anything to match it.

im a compressor service engineer, and i useually get itchy feet after a couple of years. but i have been given a fairly decent pay rise over the past couple of years and i have been here for 4yrs now which is my 2nd longest job. but im determind im not going to be getting my hands dirty for a living all my working life thats for sure.

Top advice, thanks it's much appreciated

I did have a word with my manager today and he basically told me i was on top rate and the only pay rises avaliable for me would be standard yearly pay rises.

Just wish i could be a bit more focussed on my goals..

IF the newly offered position isn't asking you to do any more work than you are now and they are offering more money, still alowing you time to mess about with cars etc.... .it's a no brainer. Out of your comfort Zone and into a more comfier zone sounds good to me.

You are comfy in your current roll and change is like venturing into the unknown but in reality you won't be doing anything different than you are now, and the only unknown is the new employer...but hell 'that's life' and a risk everyone takes one time or another. If you didn't think the employer was OK you wouldn't have gone for the interview in the first place.

You need to look after no.1, always!! If the 5hit hit the fan one day in your current employer they wouldn't think twice about letting you go, regardless of your good history there, so stop faffing about, take the job and improve the quality of your life!!!

Don't forget one important thing....you don't owe your employer anything, let alone misplaced loyalties. You do a days work and you get paid for it, that's it. It's a simple working relationship and should in no way add any weight to your final decision. When you're gone they'll replace you soon enough so i wouldn't worry about it in any way shape or form.

Good luck and enjoy your new job :thumb:
