a very black day

Post by duncan »

Some of you may have known that my mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March this year and has been fighting with this for the last 9 months. At the time of diagnosis she had secondary tumours in her liver too as was given a few months to live.

She had been undergoing chemotherapy and various other treatments, which initially showed some positive signs but in recent weeks they found tumours in her brain too which have kept her bed bound for some time. She turn another turn for the worse a couple of weeks ago and whilst still fighting it and remaining positive she finally passed away in the early hours of this morning after not having eaten since last wednesday and having very little consciousness for the past few days.

I have been travelling up and down to eastbourne every few days to see her and was down there yesterday with my sisters to be with her and each other to let her know that we were okay. She had been incredibly brave and strong and to say that I am devestated is a massive understatement.

We never know when our time is going to come and always believe that we will have a chance to do the things that we have always wanted to do. This is not always the case and has taught me to live every day as if it is your last.

Sorry if this is a little deep for what is a car related forum, but I would like to publicly thank Stuart, Ben, George and Gareth for their support, understanding and friendship over the past few months and for helping me to make this as good a year as it could have been.

I will not be online much over the coming week as I am executor of her will and have so many things to organise.... where the f**k do you start with this kind of stuff ?

Sorry Duncan I know my self that this sort of stuff is not easy I was lucky enough to not have to watch this happen to my mother or father but my father in law and how devastated my wife was and that I would never wish that sort of thing to happen to my worst enemy it was possible the single worst time of my life. Like you I was really the only man left in the family and it feel to me to arrange everything and as it was a fault at the hospital I have also been dealing with all the legal side of things as well. So if you need any advice or just someone to talk to feel free to pm me and I will help where I can.

All the best to you and your family and it never gets better over time you just learn to cope with it better.

Having never lost a loved one myself, it's impossible to understand the level of grief you must be feeling Dunc but please take some comfort in the fact that I'm sure you have the empathy of everyone on here and we'd jump at the chance to help you in any way.
