Like you say, your car is sorted and I'm beginning to think a cage is an essential now especially with the Nurburgring looming in the near future. Did that once without a cage but not keen to do it without again!

I've been on the look out for a prepped early classic with cage, brakes, PPG and forged mill as ultimately it's going to be cheaper to do that than spec mine up. But they seem a little thin on the ground. Mainly because if I had one of those, I wouldn't want to get rid either :)

I meant in terms of value etc... But yes, its a decent car to humble some silly cars, but yours also beats the 996 GT3's most times out!!!

Yes, I think a cage is a good idea, just gives that extra safety factor id it does get messy! I will mail you pics of mine, then I think you may want a cage asap! Want to do a group buy??? I am gonna just get one I think, and call up and order it this afternnon!

Yes, there aren't many about TBH, just hammer yours till it breaks then sort it proper, you don't really need PPG till you get up to over 400bhp! Then you could chance on a 6 speed cheap if you keep your eyes open!

So blacky, I'm guessing it's a no go on fitting it then?

A mundane/practical point Logan - have you had an insurance quote for the caged car? Anecdotally it's the one thing insurers get quite iffy about.

And, will you want to be wearing a helmet all the time that the cage is fitted, with a prominent hard bar not far from your right ear?

In browsing for a replacement for my '95 WRX I briefly considered an STi5 which is caged, has a 2.5, is set up for sprinting including plumbed-in extinguisher, on market for around 6k. Was tempted, but the car's up in Southport and with all its mods I'd want to be really sure it had been done well. Probably still on the market. That's the thing when the mods get too track-specific, the market is much reduced. Selling a car with road usable susp/brakes/engine mods is one thing, but I think selling a track specialist is much harder.

Good point Andy, forgot the insurance side, will call them after lunch :!:

Thats my worry, that the market is much reduced, but if I sold mine and bought a track/Sprint specific car its the same further down the line!

Out of interest, can you PM the link/details of that STI 5 please :D

I think a good point to come out of this is, if you want to push teh limits with your car then you shouldn't scrimp on safety :!: Its all fair and well tuning the car to 5000000bhp but in the last few weeks we have seen my case, and Dan's end in tears, both of us were lucky. So, if you track/sprint etc the car, you should really be thinking of safety first before buying that big turbo, and lots of other goodies :!:

Just phoned my insurance, Kieth Michaels, they reckon on a 10% loading with a cage installed.

He said the insurers would rather you have loads more power than a cage, go figure the logic of that :? :?
