What made you buy the car you drive today?
What made me buy mine?
Two things; decent spec for the money, secondly it was the first one I drove and my impulses got the better of me (again)
Simple.

for me....
I had changed from my Bug Eye impreza STi in April 2005 having seemingly got fed up with the impracticality of it, the noise and a deepening suspicion that it was just about to go bang
.... at this time i thought I should grow up and buy a grown up car.
So I bought a Subaru Legacy Spec B Tourer. A lovely car, well specced, decent power, all the bits, leather etc. But on the way back from picking it up, I remember having that sinking feeling of remorse for losing my love for driving.
For several months i kept trying to kid myself that the extra practicality and luxury was worth it. Who was I kidding ??
As soon as the 2.5 Impreza 06 was released - I knew it had to happen. Even my wife and especially my daughter wanted to hear the gorgeous tones of the flat four again and I desperately wanted to enjoy driving again and wanted to feel the thrill of just going out for a drive for the hell of it.
So January this year and the deal was done for the new car and a smile was restored whilst driving.

I had a MY01 WRX at the time and we went down to watch TOTB 2 and I remember standing there and watching a certain 2 red R32 gtr's, one belonging to Keith cowie and the other to Ron Kiddell. It was the first time I had been up close and personal and seen a fully blown GTR giving it the full bifta. I drove away that day in utter amazement at the sheer brutality of those 2 Skylines 8)
A few months later Trev called and wanted a lift to essex to get some wheels he had bought. I didn't ask where we were going and then we pulled in to RK Tuning. All of a sudden I sitting in the very 32 that I had seen annihilate everything at TOTB a few months before. I decided there and then to ask Ron the question that he had probably heard a million times before........."I'm thinking of buying a skyline....." I felt myself going red even asking it  . He just grinned and said "oh right I'm building one now for sale if you want to look at the engine bits". He showed me the car it was going in and said give us a shout if your interested, probably thinking he would never hear from me again....lol.
We drove away and I went straight home to have 'the chat' with Liz. That went down quite badly because in her eyes it was a new car to a very old car simple as that. So I borrowed a grand off mum and went down the next day to shake on it and I would then worry about telling Liz and trying to sell my scoob
3 weeks later came the call from Ron to say it's all yours. I can't describe the feeling I had that day when I pulled out of Rons driving a gtr built by the guy who had inspired me into wanting one really badly just a few months before 8) 8) .....................that day was only bettered when I pulled out of there after he had slapped a big single on it

I remember that day like it was yesterday. Your face when you hit the long awaited boost, the noise of that screamer pipe......I thought you and Trev were gonna piss yourself

Ok, I've read the previous fine anecdotal memoirs and decided that I should make more of an effort with mine. Here goes;
'
I had sold my R33 GTS-t with the specific intentions of buying a GTR. It had to be an R32 and it had to have modified suspension, exhaust and ideally be at stage one (around 380bhp).
I'd done my homework. I'd read every feature I could find; spent days on gtr.co.uk and similar sites asking typical newbie questions that were readily answered by those in the know and I had even bought the DVD. My quest for knowledge regarding the R32 was relentless. So why did this all go out of the window and I bought the very first GTR I saw?
I remember the moment when I first saw '991' on the website. I blame the combination of the right colour, the right wheels and the right key points of specification for my child-like stupor in the moments that followed.
In my eyes the car struck all the right notes and preliminary negotiations were downright laughable. I have owned and run my businesses for years so I understand all about buying a car, but I collapsed like a pack of playing cards. He told me what he wanted and I said I'd take it before I'd even seen it in the flesh!
A good friend of mine drove me down to Walthamstow in his 450bhp GTR
