It could be Sat Navigation time.

Post by Miniwilliams »

Hi guys, I've been doing a few miles lately (Devon and Dorset to name a few resent journeys), and getting tied of keep stopping looking at the map when I get near the places to make sure I'm on the right route, and not always either I have to say.

SO it might be time for a sat nav thing lol.

So not wanting to spent the earth has any one any thoughts on what's a good unit to get, (one that can up date would be good I guess)

cheers for your thoughts.

Halfrauds have been advertising 50% off sat nav on TV so maybe worth a look.. I use tomtom on my pda and phone and love it, especially if you know your way round the net ;)

Im also going to use my phone/pda for GPS. I would imagine some of the standalone GPS systems are better-but i killed two birds with one stone :D

Only down side of having sat nav and phone combined is sometimes you lose calls when sat is running, as I have found out many a time. :(

Matt,

Dont bother with the phone/pda thing for proper journeys. They are a good idea for the odd occasion, but if you are using them all the time then you are far better off with the correct tool for the job.

Ive just got myself a TomTom 710 and its fookin brilliant, tells me where speed cameras are, integrates with my phone as a handsfree kit, I can store loads of places, update any routes or camera locations, make tea and print invoices with it - its great !!! (I may have exaggerated slightly there though !! :D )

It was only 300 notes or less so not really worth worrying about, a couple of long journeys will pay for it.

I've got a Garmin Nuvi 350 which has European maps pre installed and have downloaded the speed camera locations on to it.

Used it in the UK and Europe a few times now and it has never let me down. :-D

Garmin do a few different models just really depends on what you want to spend.

wow thanks chaps for your help.

looks like Halfords and Sainsbury's could be a good place to look! I will let you know how I get on.

I like the sound of the speed camera function as if I'm asleep one day driving :o , no you all know what i mean, your miles away but still in control, it might remind me to brake in time!

Cheers Matt
