Insurance questions

Post by Ben »

Something that Ben saw this weekend made me think - so here's the question.

On Saturday Ben was following a car through Northreps - out of nowhere two dogs ran out onto the road and were killed by the car infront (The owners hadn't closed their gate or something). However you can't really start hassling someone who I'm sure is rather distraut at the site of fido bleeding out on the floor.

So the question is - if the car is damaged by hitting the dogs - are the owners liable to pay for the repair or is it classed as an accident and you have use your own insurance and thus affecting your No claims. Could you make the claim against their property insurance?.

On a similar line of questioning, if say a cyclist swerved infront of you whilst you are overtaking them, they swerve and hit your mirror off for example - how do you get them to pay for it? .... do you menace them?.

I think road users should be forced to have insurance! - bikes, OAP buggies - everyone.

Either interested to hear your opinions on the dog story.

If your Dog runs out in the run road nad gets twatted by a car, it is the dog owners liability and therefore the car owner can come after you for damages. Bizarrely if you own a cat and it causes an accident/damage, there is no direct liability!!

I'll give you an example from my own experience. I was driving down a country lane in my Hilux, very slowing overtaking a row of horses, clipping and clopping down the lane. One of the horse bolted when I drew parallel and it placed its very substantial arse in my passenger front door. With a dent that BigFil would have been proud of, I pulled over and asked the horsey person for her details. In between her tears, she coughed up her details and I merrily got my car repaired and let her insurance company pick up the tab :)

:) - obviously I was just gathering information incase - I haven't had dog bars fitted to the car.

Also don't think a car will cause too much damage - apart from trying to avoid it and going off the road.

Did hit a fox once - luckily, I hit it in such a way that it flipped down and I guess my wheels front and rear ran over it's mid section .. poor thing.

When I got home I had to get a hose to spray off the fur, blood and gloop - funny was all the local cats freakin out and spraying my car due to the scent of the fox.

Home insurance usually covers it...

Remember you have to report accidents involving :

Cattle
Horses
Asses
Mules
Pigs
Dogs
Goats
Sheep
