Rear end snaking

Even in the dry if I put my foot down hard I find the rear end of my R33 GTSt snaking. Is this to be expected, it's running at 340bhp. Or should I look to getting some better tyres maybe? Any advise appreciated.

Tyres and subtlety of throttle application will help. If you're struggling now, heaven help you in a few months.

I only got the car back from APT on Monday, the mod's fitted increased the bph by 70 so I'm still getting to grips (or not as the case maybe) with the required throttle application :)

Also - matter of interest - is it running in MPH - if so how has the conversion been done - I'm wondering if you are suffering incorrect speed reading that are affecting the Hicas - I'm assuming all skylines have hicas.

It is running in MPH, but to be perfectly honest I'm not sure how the conversion was done. It was already converted when I got it. Would it be a Hicas problem as it was snaking going in a straight line and I understood Hicas to assist when cornering (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as you could write what I know about mechanical engineering on the back of a postage stamp).

Yes the hicas 'should' only work when going round a corner but it sounds like you do have something wrong there.
When is the last time you had the tracking checked?
Are there any unusual knocks?
Are the tyres wearing evenly?

Ben can you explain a bit more about this conversion affecting the HICAS as i have not heard of this before?

It only happens when I accelerate hard and the turbo kicks in. I suspect I need to learn that the loud pedal has more than 2 positions. The reason for my question was to see if this was normal for a 340 bph car in the dry and in a straight line to guage whether perhaps I needed better tyre etc.

You have to tell us just how bad the snaking is but remember to be progressive with the noisy pedal!!!

Perhaps snaking was the wrong word to use. What I mean is that the back end to the car starts to kick out of line sideways.
