Do exhausts 'Bed in' ?

Post by Ben »

An odd question I know .... but ... either of two things has happened to my car ..

A. The exhaust is 'bedded in'
B. V-Power petrol makes my car howl like a banshee

Filled up my tank on wednesday with V-power - so by now I'm running purely V-power, not some hybrid b*stard child of Optimax - V-power mix.

Well tonight put my foot down, heard a really loud exhaust note, looked in my wing mirrors and rear view expecting to see some monsterous car following me and accelerating whilst I was ... but no ... this now louder, meaty raw is infact coming from my car. Performance is even better than before now. So that 0.1 increase in RON feels good :)

So yeh - has v-power changed the charateristics of what comes out of my exhaust or has my exhaust simply worn in ... the whole system is new, downpipes, decat and HKS Silent exhaust box.

What do you reckon folks?

I reckon your new fuel might be burning more efficiently and at a greater temperature. This could have burnt all the carbon deposits in your exhaust pipe away and now you have a sweeter note. Just a theory, could be bollocks.

I think the exhaust will slightly bed in,, but not enough to change what your saying there,,, its probably just a combination of all the new parts you got there and the new fuel and the ecu resetting itself to run efficiently with the new set up... my lil opinion :)

Youve probably blown the baffles out already. It happens

Sounds more feasable but if this is a performance system, the baffles shouldn`t go for that little extra 0.1ron.

I was thinking along those lines ... but it's a HKS Silent - it's basically a big tube !!! .. and not much else ...

I did blow up a Peco on my 205 within a week :) ...

Oh well I'll see how it goes for a few more weeks. It sounds lovely though under load - it's still silent when cruising.

Sounds ideal...............after 1100 miles in four days with mine, I'd happily swap.

my Cobra pipe seems to change note all the time. It's gradually got deeper and growlier, and after the new turbo, injectors and remap last week, it's got even more of a bark to it. (kind of apt simile there, as it *is* a Scooby after all  .........................ok, I'll get me coat   )

:o :o

He better hope not. I the combustion temps are up the EGT will be up also and could equal a bit of a piston crown melt down

For general info the high octane fuel will have a greater resistance to knock. Generally it will enable the temps at PPP to be lower therefore giving a more controled burn. A slower burn (often called a lazy burner) will require a tad more ign timing. so those with extreme timing maps will feal the benifits. Those with lazy and retarded timing maps will not, only a raise in egt.

So the question you need to ask yourself Ben is are you on benefits or lazy and retarded?
