The R32 GTR Shell is pretty much the same as a standard car, save for the front wings and the bonnet being made of a Aluminium.

There are a number of areas worth checking for rust when looking over your prospective purchase.

1. Check the front of the rear arches. Often aftermarket spats have been fitted. These can hide rust. I would strongly recommend removing the spats to check. They are only held on by two bolts each side. A 5 minute job to remove and replace.

2. Check the rear inner sills.

3. Boot rain gulley. Open the boot and run you finger (to clear the leaves and mess) along the gulley.

If these 3 area's are clear of rust it is unlikely that you will have any other problems except for crash repaired areas. The japanese aren't reknowned for quality body repairs.

An interesting thing to know about the R32 is that the rear quarters are hollow (I know most cars are) and on the skyline they are easily accessible from the inside - you can find some interesting things dropped done inside the wings. Squeeze you hand in each side feel for water or rust. It is recommended by a number of people to pull out the drainage bungs and leave them out!. Based on what I found in my rear quarters I'm assuming the japanese owner didn't have a dustpan, so brushed the contents of the boot into the wings on a regular basis!!.

Also, check the windscreen, a replacement can set you back as much as 1600 pounds for a new one. You can get them second hand, but quite a waiting game.
