What do you suggest is the basic requirments for monitoring my engine?
Got the standard Skyline gauges at the moment, just wondered if a knock link would be useful? Also anything else to help me keep an eye on it?

EGT is very important, the stock gauges are crap so I'd get a oil pressure and boost gauge too.
Talk is cheap, I only have an aftermarket boost gauge so far
Defi's are on the list and really will be done by the end of the year. ( This is like MSN mate :rotflol: )

 Yeah msn is less interesting though
Got an HKS boost gauge, but not happy with it, or it's mounting, so it'll probably be Defi's again for me. They were great in the last car, looked excellent and worked very well. Although the EGT sensor did fail shortly after I sold the car, it had only been on there about 14 months, although that might of been a one of thing.

lol .. when I first got mine the boost gauge needle was stopping when it hit the casement .... which i thought was odd ... seeing as the needle went past the 0.7 mark ...
Turned out that jap owner had removed the boost restrictor and I was potentially running 1.2 bar .... now re-restricted and a bit more sedate.
I will definitely go for an uprated boost gauge and oil temp plus oil pressure at some point - I think the general feedback is if you want to use you car - get proper readouts ....

I would definately go down the oil temp gauges (engine and gearbox and mebee diff oil temp ) and EGT route,,, they will definately prewarm you on upcomming problems,, the oil pressure guage is not so important in think,,, because the minute the guage drops (and when they do it goes quickly no prewarn at all ) your engine is probably already knackered

and a good turbo boost guage will tell you instantly of possible pipe leaks and tiredness of the turbo..

I`m going to be looking into getting some decent pods made up in Carbon fiber in the future as a center console mount. some aftermarket universal kits just don`t fit right.

I`m even thinking of a complete dash with the gauges already moulded in.

Defo get
Boost gauge
Oil temp
Oil pressure
EGT
Wide band 02
Knock detector
Once you got this lot you need to be able to glance at it all and understand what its telling you.
When i tune i monitor boost, Air temp, Ignition timing, afr, Knock, revs, EGT, water temp.
i run all of this lot in FC edit and log the lot.

'FC Edit'? As in Power FC? Excuse my stupidity.
