we have bought an intercooler temperature gauge for our car.
however when i got to work this morning opened the package the sensor
wire is only about 1/2 meter long so wont reach from the dashboard
upto the intercooler.
my question is am i able to cut the wire and solder and section in to make it longer
will the sensor still work afterwards?

Yep not a problem, use similar gauge wire.

ive checked the wire but there is no writing on it.
how is it best to know what gauge/thickness, use a vernier and measure
the thickness of both cord and wire?

Without insulation, compare to drill bit if you have a good selection or maybe you have some strippers with makings on them?

Where should the sensor be located. Inside the intercooler pipework between intercooler and engine or between the fins of the intercooler, or somewhere else?
We need to monitor the intake charge temps.

what gauge is it?,
you need a fast probe to measure true temps in air flow

Just a cheapo off fleebay.
The reason we're doing this is our last dyno session showed intake temps of 50 degs. Were fitting a larger intercooler and just want a guide as to whats going on temps wise. At present it seems as if we are loosing a chunk of bhp towards the end of a session.
Ultimately I would like the ecu to control the intercooler spray setup, but just to see whats what for now.
We have to work with what we can do. Not always ideal but neither is life, plus it's fun.

am I right in thinking that this tipe goes between the fins of the intercooler?
