Hi every one looking for people's opinions on evo 3 s. I know there an older at but are they a good tuneable engine strong box and transfer box and are parts like coil overs , paddle clutch etc readily avalable.

Great cars. Light, fast, good standard spec and peanuts for what they are. Try to get one on a set of ramps before you make a purchase as some of the under side rot on early ones* is horrendous

*I say early ones, but it could be any Japanese import that's been here for years and not treated

You don't see a lot of the 3's because of their age, and the tuning/upgrades side is compromised by their unusual engine/drivetrain set-up compared to the 4-9's (essentially the engine and gearbox are reversed in the bay like some early Honda's).

Transmission is nowhere near as strong as the later cars (what with needing an extra shaft in the 'box to get the drive turning the right way, and the transfer box is tiny), and while the block is basically the same as the later models, I believe it's not regarded to be as strong.

Ross bought one with a blown engine after the 2011 MLR Snetterton Sprint and had a play, adapting later parts to fit, and Gary built the engine-

After it was built and mapped (486bhp), Ross decided to focus on the other projects, so it was sold to this guy-

Another example is the Ex-Norris Evo 3, raced in TA last year by Steven Peel. It had been converted to the later Engine and drivetrain with some major chassis mods and always seemed to get good results, even with little set-up and being rough around the edges.

Check out the silver evo3 on ebay starting at 1850 looks perfect, loved the evo I i had was on BC coilovers not the greatest but suited that car. As said some components are week mine had a recent gearbox in it standard clutch was fine guess depends what power your looking for car felt so mucjer lighter than the newer cars...
