Any thoughts guys? Obviously I can check all the usual bits, but are there any special areas I should be looking at?
Anyone on here owned one?

Thanks

Just spoken to the garage and there were no advisories on the last MOT (i'll do a pre MOT on it when I get there) & also they said no rust in the usual places :)
They reckon it's the nicest one they've ever seen, although they would say that :D

Steering can leak, heads can warp (as,mentioned with overheating) gearbox needs to be checked from cold. Diffs leak but not necessarily terminal, brakes are AWFUL as standard, its all part of the charm. Ensure it has had the hardened valves for unleaded ( not read the advert as replying from my phone) and the light circuit. They rust everywhere, but the naughty buts are the scuttle and front wings, as the rest can be repaired. TBH it seems strong money. Essex Classics often has Capri s for sale, might be worth a google. I loved my two 2.8s, but they are bloody old now. Good luck!

that is a very nice looking example indeed and i do love these.

for that kind of money i would take a magnet with me and check all 4 corners of the car and doors to check for any filler.

check the bootlid were the spoiler sits as on the sierra it does rust under there quite badly

the iron 2.8 v6 is quite bullet proof apart from the fueling system, as its MFI
you do have to adjust the fuel mixture a couple times a year

as for the cooling you might be able to fit a 24v cosworth radiator with
electric fans, these fit the sierra no problem and the setups are quite close

been working with these engines for many years in xr4i's and xr4x4's
so if you need any help give me a shout.

Cheers Rob & :bart:
Was hoping you guys would see my post.
Didn't think about the valves so will find out, if not its not the end of the world to get it sorted. I'll take you up on your offer Alan if I need any advice, cheers.

Ps

The car is for my brother, we were chatting today about affordable cars we'd have that we always wanted as kids.

with reference with the valves ask him what fuel the car has been running on
as if its been run on super unleaded thats not to bad but if its run on standard
unlead ask if its also had lead treatment put in the fuel every time its had
petrol put in it.

having the heads converted would cost around

another thing that you may have to adjust from time to time will be the tappets its normally 3 & 6 exhaust valves that need adjust at the back of the engine

One last thing before I head off to bed...

We've HPI'D the car and its had 12 previous owners but is otherwise clear of being written off etc, and whilst that wouldn't bother me, it's worrying my brother. Personally I don't think one owner every two years is anything to be too concerned about or am I wrong :willy_nilly:
