Go Pro mounting

Anyone got any ideas how to make the best go pro footage?
I basically can't be arsed with editing and working out how to put speed readouts and stuff onto the footage but I currently have the camera mounted so it looks straight out of the front window. Trouble is it's not very interesting as all you see is the track.
However, I did try mounting the camera on the central hoop of the cage but then the shot wasn't any good either as the view out of the windscreen was like a letterbox....
