How do i turn off the airbag light?

Post by Mr Windscreen »

Just fitted some new seats in my wrx and now the airbag light stays on. The previous seats had side airbags in them, the new seats don,t. Is there a way to turn the airbag light off or do i have to take the dash apart and remove the bulb!?

If you take the bulb out does this affect the MOT ?

No idea Gareth. Not sure how many centres would fail a car for not displaying a bulb on the dash. No error light=no fail? Not sure..................

No airbag light isn't an MOT failure, there's a tester on SXOC :)

it needs to come on, then go off for the ABS, or its a fail, not so sure about air bags.

When i changed the seats in my Golf i had the same problem. I couldn't find any alternative than to get a resister to to complete the circuit in the old plug under the seat so the car thought the airbag was there. Cost 20p and took 3 mins.

Just to back up whats aready been said here. The airbag light is not part of the m.o.t test. Taking a bulb out is ok if yours has bulbs and not led`s like alot of modern cars. As james has said a resistor across the airbag plug is by far the cheapest option. Or ( i dont know about subaru ) But is it not possible to get an airbag module from a non side bag model wrx of the same year? For example my clio`s all have side bags, except for the 2004-05 year extreme 3 models they don`t. The modules are inter changable. I have a chap that i found on ebay that can reprogramme my modules to any spec within the clio range. might be worth a look?
