Currently got mine in bits gearbox off etc, got me wondering whilst its off is it worth removing the flywheel and getting it lightened -any views would be appreciated hopefully should be able to get a local engine machine shop to do it.

Yes, you can get it lightly faced, some weight taken from the back and rebalanced. 25% will have no detrimental affect on tickover etc.

I have a place do mine, but a few days turnaround as they are out in the sticks and only pick up twice a week. Friday is their next pick up.

robertsons engine reconditioning are going to do it and also the clutch pressure plate face at the same time

I'll weight it before and after

hopefully it won't effect drivability too much as I am going to change the final drive at the same time

Careful with facing the pressure plate face as it will reduce your clamping force unless you get the flywheel stepped, but that may reduce your travel. Better to go for a new cover/clutch if it is worn.

sorry should have been clearer I am only the getting the cover balanced -maybe very light skim
flywheel hopefully should be able to lose 2-3kg
