Alternative To A Car Radio?!

In a nut shell, i currently have a great double din pioneer head unit in the Integra.. Does my Ipod, the radio, blutooth hands free for my blackberry.. its great.. but its stupidly big.

As the direction im going for the car will be street/track use, i require putting some other more essential electrical items in the car.. Gauges and controllers etc.. I do not want to have gauges butchering the dashboard, or sticking to the side of the a-pillar...

See now there is a lot of space that can be used by fabricating a nice bracket for various parts i want in place of the double din head unit currently installed....

I want to know if there is anyway i can still listen to my Ipod, forget the radio and the phone in the car as i will be using it as a daily driver without having the headunit in place..

Some small mini computer... or a small hard drive with sound card wired up to the speakers only?!

Im just looking to see if there is any suggestion or alternative... rather than having a head unit...

There has to be some clever technical wizzardry that can be performed to get this to work... As the teg wont purely be a track car, it is my daily driver i still need the driving music..

I dont think there is a cheap alternative to a head unit which of course is an amplifier for the speakers. You could switch to a single DIN allowing three guages?

I have a Pioneer DEH-6100BT which has bluetooth hands free with external mic, MP3 cd player with the abiltiy to scroll through albums, a mini phone jack, and a USB port. Excellent quality and with the external mic very clear for the person on the other end. Only slight niggle is it takes a while to get used to scrolling through the phonebook but for the value (around
