Vtec Flatspots?

For some reason today, totally out of the blue, when accelerating in vtec in 3rd gear only there is a weird flat spot at 6500 rpm and again at 7500 rpm.. Image Car seems to hesitate and then go again...

Doesnt do this in any other gear.. I gave it a second test on circuit this morning on the back straight as we have a down day to see if it does it in any other gear just to be certain and it doesnt.

The engine is stock, have the factory airbox the only modification done is the backbox which has been on for a month at least and has caused no problems..

Little concerned, aswell as it being somewhat bloomin irritating..Its not the clutch, that is fine Jamie (previous owner has taken out on circuit to see and it does it in 4th gear too)

Is there anything i can check? What to look for? Your thoughts are appreciated.. ;)

Thanks

James

Vtec Solenoid on the side of the block - Gasket was screwed.

For some reason it would stick, and then un-stick... It started this morning, after a few laps it was getting worse and all over the rev range. Had the car on the ramp, checked the Leads, plugs, dizzy and then had a brainwave, checked the vtec solenoid and it turned out to be the two very small gaskets.

When James asked about flatspots and V-tec (yo), I was going to cheekily comment that it's all the way from tickover to 7k rpm :)

It was funnier when I thought of it, than it is now I've read it.

Glad it's sorted

Working at a race circuit does have some benefits ;)

Im glad its sorted, having looked about on the internet, some flatspot issues are a result of quite serious problems, just glad mine was one of the less worrying problems.

Stuart you do make me laugh sometimes :sifone:

You are pretty right though, 0-6200rpm is pretty shocking :smilielol5:

Don't you start Stuart, I take enough stick from Mr Hayward & Co that I'm getting paranoid about it. As I said back in the '80's, turbos will never catch on!
