Hi, its time to spend a few quid on the old girl now she is back on the road. I am happy with the suspension so it will be engine mods. It has a green air filter and a Jap cat back exhaust fitted. I have a Walbro to fit, i was just wondering what the next mods are to gain me some more horses and progress up the mod ladder.
Car is a 96 Impreza STI import. And i have

de-cat would release plenty more power and within budget.

If I'd done what you've already done with mine, I'd be speaking to Gary @APT as you're so local. That's nearing remap money, and there's no point in having unreliable power with a turbo.

Thats my 2p worth.

Sorry, forgot to say. It has one removed already.

Sti only has one cat and that's in the down pipe. The lump in the centre section is a resonator. So, like Trev said, a decat downpipe and an ESL ecu mod and re-map will be good for a bit more.

Yes, decat or sportscat downpipe if it still has the cat and then a remap.

Your little intercooler is OK at lower power levels but you're not going to do much better than standard.

The idea of a larger intercooler is that cooler you can make charge temps the more timing advance you can add before detonation (knock) happens. Roughly speaking for every 10 degrees you lower charge temps you can advance timing by 1 degree and that in itself can be a fair amount of extra power/torque.

An Sti intercooler is very good at what it does and there are probably very few if any better aftermarket top mounts around. Their downfall is that when stationary they tend to get hot quickly from external turbo heat being so close to it in the first place but once on the move they are very efficient. This is why you have well respected tuners like Andy Forrest tuning newage STi's with topmounts and still making 450bhp.

With my current turbo and once i've modified my injectors i'll easily be making 400bhp and still be using the STi topmount. It's a very good bit of kit.

Thereafter a front mount is the way forward.

Don't pay any more than
