Hi guys,
As some of you will know, I am relatively new to all this track malarky, and I know some of you guys wear gloves and swear by them. Can someone politely explain the advantages? I've an OMP suede wheel if thats relevant.

Don't like gloves personally but will need to get some when they become mandatory for MSA events next year

I never used to wear them but after i started useing the CSL on track i noticed the steering wheel getting sweaty and clammy.

I bought a cheap pair of Sparco gloves from SCA in Norwich to try out and i really like them. No more slipping on the steering wheel.

I wouldn't go out on track without a pair of gloves now.

Besides protection if they are fire retardant the main advantage is stopping your hands from slipping when they sweat. The suede steering wheels will also help with this but imagine what it will be like after several hot track days with all that sweat absorbed into it.

Worth there wait in gold. I'll repeat the old story again, about 5 years ago a Superstox's fuel line caught fire, the driver got out untouched apart from his hands as he wasn't wearing gloves. Hasn't had proper use of them since.

That post has just reminded me of the go kart night a few months ago.

Having been warned to be careful when getting out of the seat, as the exhaust was in an ideal place for leverage. I did just that on the practice session. I was later to be found wandering the car park trying to ease the pain on frosted car windows. It ruined the whole night for me.
