gearbox 'whine'

Post by evildave »

have noticed recently that when my car has warmed up that there is a whine (similar to tuning an old radio in) coming from the gearbox, this is quite loud outside the car.

the noise only happens between 5 - 15mph and then goes above that, my 4th gear is a little notchy which is probably the synchro, and i recently had the oil changed in the gearbox (didn't make any noise up till then). If i dip the clutch pedal while whining the noise tones down and fades out.

Could it be that my gearbox oil is too thin? and takes a while to warm up due to the winter weather?

Next question is of course what oil should i be using in a 97 type r box?

cheers,

dave
