Widening the track

What is the general consensus for widening the wheel base on a car say my mk III ford fiesta by at least six inches each side?
Surely not just spacers and longer studs? Obviously by far the easiest way but surely the extra strain would mean your wheels would keep overtaking you?!

what the hell are you working on now? A foot wider? Honestly, I have no idea mate.....I suppose there can be no simple way of doing a conversion like this. It would have to be structural; maybe you could see what Ford rear end is a foot wider than a Fiesta and go from there.

Well the dream is an s2000 engine so that would sort out the rear

Need to learn how to weld first so first investment would be a course in that! Im interested in using a space frame chassis, to the scale as it would be classed as a kit car as that would be the only way I could ever afford to insure and I think with all that effort I would like to have it as a weekend ride as well.
I just want to create something special and fun using the composite skills I've learned. I've got the best inspirational pictures that have got the mind whirring!
The biggest problem is I don't earn enough for all that so it would be much more achievable to run my stock fez but with wide arches/aero! (not that the fiesta can reach those sort of speeds  )
