Boost problem solved at last

For those that read my earlier posts the boost problem was finally resolved today at APT (big thanks to all there and Duncan) however after replacing inlet hose which had a split in it, having turbo checked/tweaked at Turbo Dynamics, boost solenoid valve and recirc valve changed, all hoses and intercooler checked plus other bits the problem was still there :o :( ............................finally while it was on the rolling road today Gary removed the air filter and instantly cured the problem!!! yep..it was the air filter that was completely blocked so put another one in and with the inlet pipe replaced its now producing 308bhp and about 300lbs/ft torque :D :D needs a tweak but a great result in a round about sort of way......better than the 234bhp i got 10 days ago!!! motto if you are losing power or boost check the air filter first :D

Blimey....my Evo had the same issue, did Gary tell you?? WE spent 4 hrs changing loads of stuff untill we tried a new MAF and didn't plug the inlet pipe back into the airbox and it ran fine.....certainly had us foxed for a while!

I will use this in any argument that says i chose too big a filter for my car. :-D :-D
Stands to reason that if you cant get the air in fast enough then you cant compress it and hence no boost
Glad to see the boys at thier best still

Jay, I saw your filter....its a tad OTT, I thought it was for a Scania truck!!!

When i was choosing the filter for this turbo i done some maths based on max air flow

Garret qoute 78lbs per min at 1.8bar (expected max boost before just producing heat)
I have based the calculations on "atmosphere" temp as i could not find the conversions for "chilled" air
Bear in mind also my intake temps were around 30deg from memory

1 lb. of air at 62

So you can see from the above comment i think  why i had lost approx 75bhp (as well as loss through the split inlet pipe) which is a lot of power to lose when i now have 308bhp....and thats about as technical as i can get

Saw your car up at APT when mine was up there last week, looks beautiful! Glad you got the boost issue sorted! I was wondering why it was so low for an STI on the dyno day, this explains it :-D Good job by the boys up at APT!
