Boost problem update

Post by mad dad »

Right have checked or replaced boost solenoid valve, dump valve for recirc one, all pipework etc and problem still there so next step is replace turbo with a VF24 (standard - sorry) as i do have a strange whistling noise which is possibly the bearing. Anyone know of a good supplier...have spoken with AET who were very helpful but open to suggestions, was hoping to get fixed bfore Rally GB but doubt this will be the case ................Cheers

Andy - sorry to hear about this ongoign saga :(

speak to Adge at http://www.adgespeed.co.uk

He is breaking a couple of 06 STi's with very low mileage that would have a VF43 for yours - would make for a cheap and good upgrade.

could you get it in at APT for an hour or so to check it out when running, possibly a weak actuator, a lot cheaper than replacing the turbo. or you could drop in at Henstead and get Dave to code read it for you, may flag something up?
Was going to mail you and say my boost sov is spare if you want to try it, AVCR fitted now.

if you have a std WRX then a new-age car has a TD04 on which i will have a good s/hand unit in the w/shop for very cheap money..........

we are only off the A1M at the "angel" just before newcastle so can happily look at it at some point if you wish

if you do fit a VF23 or any other non-std turbo you WILL need to map to suit

If its whistling I would say its a boost leak. My gasket went under my TMIC on my MY94 WRX and it would turn dogs heads at 500 yards when on boost! Other than that it still went fine with no out of the ordinary readings on my boost guage. Definately well worth checking more for leaks as it could save a fortune :o

My VF35 whistles a bit...does that mean i have a boost leak somewhere too??

I have all new exhaust gaskets and new intercooler hoses and it seems to run fine.
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Adge mentioned the VF43 and said he would check to see if it would fit....................i am only checking out worst case scenarios as i'm sad and like to plan for all eventualities...............no last minuite surprises that way :D

It would be a small upgrade giving the potential for around 370 bhp.

Good luck this morning.
