You can re-fit sound deadening, but it'll have to be new, as its stuck down and when you take it out, it wont come out in one piece!

If iam understanding the question correctly yes you can remove the sound deadening and refit the carpet although the carpet may not fit correctly as the levels will be different. Some parts of the sound deadening are very thick and will be used to space around certain equipment in the car heater motors , cable etc.
Worth the effort? Yes

pointless in my eyes all or nothing as your just fcuking about with bmw build quality for no real reason!
why would you want to take it out any way?
thats just out of interest as its your car to do what you like with!

Weight saving

- Arron, I think if you're going to go track car route then bin it and the carpets, there is no point going half way ... you either have a track car or a road car .... I guess the question is, is this car a daily driver? .. if so .. can you really live with the noise and discomfort?

Id leave it in mate.
Any gains of going 1/2 way would be so minimal it wouldnt be worth the time or agrovation.
Get a light weight battery and dump 10kg... much easier weight loss than the sound deadening.

all or nothing mate, you wouldn't be saving much weight on sound proofing alone, good idea if your car lets water in though lol........but of course a bemmer wouldn't
