Now before any of you moan about my money habits this is not something i am thinking of doing it is just a question in the air,
I currently have an uprated air filter and full custom exhaust. If i was to remap the ecu would there be much point?
Just curious as i want to start learning to do remapping .
ECU remapping
As a general rule if you are changing the way air gets in or out of the engine versus what it was designed to do, there will be differences in calibration for how much fuel is added and how/when the turbo spools. This would lead me to say that a remap is needed or beneficial.
I am not sure how your car's ecu works though so dont know whether the boost control is good or fueling has enough leeway to compensate for the reduced restrictions.
Tread carefully if you do tinker.

I dont think you'd get a lot more horsepower from those mods. But any changes to a car would be worth tweaking the map.
Presume you need something like the ecutek, datalogit or conzult application that connects to the ecu and alows you to read the settings and change them.

Looking around Tom it looks like you would need to get your ECU chipped rather than do it yourself.
As for normally aspirated engine you are not going to see anywhere near the power gains a turbo version would provide so to get decent power it's back to good old engine machining, lighter pistons, Rods, crank, head porting/skimming, gas flowed manifolds, bigger valves etc..etc... to get more bhp from your motor as well as a re-chip to get max benefits from all the money you're spent to gain an extra few bhp
If you want lots more BHP get another car!!

There are other ways to improve the on road performance of a car without touching the engine or ecu. As i don't know anything about your car I can't say if it would work for you. It depends upon weather or not parts are inter changeable between the gti and the gtir. Compare the gear ratios of the 2 and also the ratios of the diffs.

You could always try running it on Methanol with lots of timing advance. I just wouldn't want to be to close to you when your Methanol goes up
No extra long straws in the Tank Tom, it's not good for you!!
I think what Tom really wants is a bit of go faster magic fairy dust :gayfight:
