Hi all my cars been playin up recently running rough and black smoke has been coming out of the exhaust , ive done and error code check and its thrown up 12(starter switch) 24(air control valve) 31(Throttle position sensor). Done a reset but still no good , have all these got to be replaced
and are they linked to each other ?

Thanks in advance .

Don't know if you've performed a reset with the green, under dash connectors but try disconnecting the battery overnight.

Has this happened suddenly, as a result of having done something? What do you mean by, running rough?

What's the car's spec, standard or any mods?

I would suggest cleaning the throttle and idle sensors with brake cleaner as they are more than likely gunked up rather than needing replacing.

The car has a cat back exhaust and a cone filter , it started all of sudden , its as if its running on two / three and some times doesn't want to rev and plumes out black smoke !! swapped the maf for the one on my type r but still the same so swapped it back .

More facts would be helpful. Under what conditions did it suddenly happen. was it while you were looking for a parking space at Tesco or on the eleventh run of the afternoon at the Pod? :D

How have you reset the ecu? The green connectors or battery disconnect?

I'd be inclined to check level and condition of the coolant and oil for signs of one getting into the other.

All hoses for condition and that they're attached, check the intercooler hoses haven't split, look for splits in the air inlet hose and where it attaches to the turbo.

Remove all plugs, checking first that the leads are located and attached firmly. Compare colour, condition, wet/dryness, etc.

While plugs are out, perform a compression check.

HTH :D

if its smoking and mis-firing the diagnosis would probs be a melted piston........................doesn't sound like a re-set would sort anyhows, sorry

a compression check will confirm either way

Are you sure you didn't put some diesel into it by mistake??

It happens :)

Indeed it does, a friend of mine filled up his F348 with diesel last year, force of habit as his day to day car is a diesel. (Yes he did realise before he drove off and it all got very expensive!)

Its not a melted piston ad i have not put diesel in it , if i go to the car now it will run fine and after about 30 mins it will play up , i cleaned the maf and it was fixed for a day or 2 then played up again , ive reset the ecu but pullin the black wire out of the fuse box . is there anythin lse i could do ?
