A question of turbo's

I'm looking to change the turbo on my Mk1 Golf when I get round to putting the 20v 1.8 turbo in it but I'm on a budget and cant afford to go and buy a GTR28 
Been looking at second hand units but really need to know what I'm looking for,
the standard turbo for the engine I have is the KKK03, I can get a KKK03s which is the same as my Bora and will run around 230 bhp at 16 psi. Next being the KKK04 from the 225 Audi TT and will run up to 265bhp.
how do these compare to the TD04 or TD05, what the difference between these 2 and then how do they compare to a Garret T3 ?
What sort of boost levels can they run ?
