Dumb question alert

Myself and a friend have decided to build a track day project , its going to trailered to and from the events so if we break it ,it can be tailered home and fixed(if only everything in life was as relible as a vw . . . . . . . . yeah right!) so in theory it will never be on the road , my question is does it have to be insured/mot'd to do a track day? and if it doesn't who and what checks are done before the car goes onto the track?

we intend to rebuild the suspension and brakes and repair any rust issues ( its 20 years old theres gonna be rust!!!) so it should pass just wont be pretty ,

anything else i should need /consider before we buy this motor?

Tax n test and insurance isnt needed at track-days just signing the disclaimer to say the vehicle is in a road worth condition is what usually happens. At the organisers discretion the vehicle could be inspected at any point of the day for safety.
Ive never had the car scrutinised at a track day but this would happen at a sprints, the car would then have to fulfill certain criteria to be eligible. The only thing that may happen before being able to go out on track is static noise testing.

exellent thats what i wanted to hear, so as good as road legal just without the green slip
