Windows Effin' Vista.

Post by Gerry H »

I know it's more stable than the previous version but if my account is 'Administrator' why does it sometimes tell me I don't have rights to install a programme?

right click and run as admin i believe is the way to get round it

also open up cmd and type in control userpasswords2 then sort out all the account settings in there

Glad it wasn't just me then :D I read Toms' post and thought 'what the bloody hell is he on about?'

Come on Tom, once more for the older users mate. The more detail, even pictures, the better.

Right ok here it is :)

First of all i will explain the first option I described briefly:

1: Find the Icon of the program your trying to run, There should be an Icon on your desktop or in your start bar at least.
if you can't find it in there go to My Computer > C:\ > Program Files and have a little gander in there for it

2: Right click on the Icon for the program.

3: Click on "Run As Administrator"

that should do it now.

Right this is my little tutorial for the next bit, i seem to remember this working for me when i had Vista.

Also it is worth while your doing Admin rights, have you turned UAC off?

Re-booted the cumputer this morning and it now lets me install the prog. Apple Quick Time. I can also get into Programme Files, which I couldn't before :?:

What's UAC?

UAC = stupid sh***y "protection" thing

If you dont have any problems with it then dont bother messing with it, I used to hate it as i'm constantly messing with things in windows
