Bee R rev limiter

Post by Scooby_RA »

Has any one else got one these or heard good/bad things about them. I've just put one on with no problems so far, I think the factory rev limit is a bit high so thought this would be a good thing. A friend who had one on a WRX had a few problems when he first put it in - although it might have been his choppy wiring
Your thoughts please.

I bought one - went to have it fitted by Abbey and they talked me out of it - something along the lines that you'd be replacing the piston rings within a few weeks !!! ...

why would that be? i have looked at them a few times, and watch some vids of them, and they do look really cool hitting the limiter poping and spitting out flames

Hmmmm, i'm not really using it to do flame shows, just as a soft cut rev limiter around 7k, my standard limiter doesn't come in until 8250 which considering it makes peek power around 6500 seems a bit high, hence my reasoning :?

I believe - and I can't remember exactly - but on the skyline when it cuts in is advancing the ignition by 30 degrees or so ..

why that is bad - no idea. But I sold mine on - and the number of posts of people fitting them - having videos of 4 foot flames - then posts looking few a new engine are quite common.

Can't you limit the revs with your right foot? If the OE limiter is set to 8,250 and your peak power is 6500, just change gear when the revs get to 7ish. That'll give 1000+ headroom without the drama.

Depends what you use the car for but if you're heading for a finish line, you may easily find yourself in a situation where you need to snatch another gear because 7000 kills the engine but 7500 would see you across.

Maybe a heads up display would serve you better.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!

I am sure you mean by retarding the ignition Ben. Advancing it would put it into Det City and a definite flatbed home.

I've used one, piece of piss to wire in. They are known for making massive flames etc, but thats only if you set the gain high. The higher the gain, the longer the missfires so when it finally does spark you get a big bang. This might be why Abbey mention the rings as there is a lot of fuel in the pot, maybe causing bore wash. If you set the gain nice and low it cuts like a normal limiter with no drama. The way it cuts the spark is a bit shonky as it just messes with the Cam sensor to throw the timing out iirc.

Fitting guide for the S14 is here....

mines wired to the crank sensor so with this interupted it will not spark, its set on a low gain.
I know what you're saying Gerry but want it as a back up not to hit it then change gear, so I'll be keeping an eye on the rev counter anyway. I just think the standard on is too high, so if you're not paying close attention to rev counter...........
If I do quarter mile sprints, I have no doubt it will be close to either 4th gear change up or 5th gear factory speed limiter, so either way not sure.
