FIXED - R32 Drivers - Hicas warning / no power steering?.

Post by Ben »

Merrily driving down the A11 - Hicas light comes on ..... get to a roundabout and find I no longer have power steering !! ... bit of a surprise as a GTR without Power steering is like trying to turn an oil tanker !!! ..

Any ideas?.

I've checked all the reserviors, they seem to be correct, I cannot find any leaks, I haven't yet found any fuses that seem to be shot.

Has anyone experienced the same? ... I'm going to disconnect the battery shorty and see if that makes a difference.

Never had this! we had the drag car loose power steering out on track a few times this year but put that down to a warped set of discs causing the steering rack to wobble too much and knock the PS out!

Do the battery thing, hopefully it will sort it!

No - all looks ok .. it's bizarre, nothing looks to be leaking, just got the light on and no power steering .. admittedly it's much better at speed - just a B*st*rd to park.

Can I bring it over sat for a session on the consult.

further info ..

Reset ECU - no difference, but what I did notice is that I seem to have some power steering - It would seem that I have high speed power steering, it's only the low speed parking power steering that is dead.

My guess is a problem with the Varible Speed Signal as I believe both Hicas and Steering use this reading - hopefully this is something Consult can see.

ben can you see if any of the led lights are flashing on the hicas ecu as I think it has its on error checking on it? On the gtroc there are posts saying what the different lights mean.

Disconnect the battery, then touch the positive and negative leads together for about 30secs to drain any residual power left in the cars warning systems/CANBus, and then reconnect the leads to the battery.

Works for getting rid of ABS warning light on a Scoob or Legacy after disconnecting a seat, or removing the Clockspring in the steering wheel.

I have no idea if it will reset your warning lights/power steering or it could just be a relay gone down.
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

I've drained the battery - on the 32 you simply disconnect one of the terminals and press the brake pedal till flat .. then reconnect ... making sure your front wheels are straight.

It is odd is all I can say ...
