I put my new Apexi filters on the Gtr today and then started it up with the bonnet still up, only to discover that when I revved the engine I could hear the exhaust manifold blowing.

I assume that this would be the manifold gasket that has gone.

Is there an easy way to check that this is the case or do I just get the gasket and hope it is not the manifold cracked.

How easy a job is it to replace the manifold gasket? Is it the sort of thing I could undertake myself? please tell me it's not an engine out job.

on a slightly more sensible note I would imagine its possible, if a litlle awkard, without taking the engine out and i should be able to help after this weekend. I just need to get all the bodywork done this weekend first.

only bad thing about them is if its a aluminium head . big chance that you will pull the treads out of the head when taking the bolts off or putting them back on..almost worth it to just redo all the threads with a thread repair kit while you have the manifold off.. not sure where to get them in the uk i got mine for my supra off ebay usa. timesert or heli coil repair kits. mine came with the right size drill bit and tap with 8 inserts.

nik i reckon you would be able to take the turbo's off without too much hastle, i lost count the amount of times mine were on and off and all that was with the engine fitted, i might have a couple of gaskets lying around if you want one

I hear they are a pain in the arse todo there is a set way to do it to get all the bolts undone. You need to allow a couple of days if doing it yourself.

You can buy helicoil kits from loads of places there are stronger than using the aluminium threads in the head.

Anyone know whether "XS Power" manifolds are any good?

I was looking for a gasket and saw one on ebay with gaskets included for

nik watch quality of aftermarket gaskets,most are cheap materail and dont last

we only use genuine nissan ones

as for manifolds some say they ok but as always you get what you pay for
