Exhaust / Lambda Probe issues

So the story so far,

On the way to work the other night, my car was slowly getting louder, until there was a "clunk" and then it got very loud. Imagine the sound of a V8 it was a bit like that which out of a Sunny GTi is not right.

Got to work checked underneath the car and to my surprise the exhaust had split at a weld on the manifold.
Managed to get the car to my girlfriend's in the morning and started racking idea's. Between her dad and our dearest maffsx we managed to get it all welded up again. Although now we have the problem of the lambda sensor not going back in. For some reason it threaded so now it will not grip at all and stay in place.

They are currently trying to work out a way round it but so far to no avail (sp).

Maffsx has provided a new probe but it won't fit as far as i am aware.

Has anyone got any idea's as i need to get to work tonight and so far i have not slept since last nights shift as im too stressed.

What would happen if i ran with out the sensor?

Help Please :)

If you run without it the ECU will not be able to adjust the fuel correctly so its not a good idea. You could get a new lambda boss and weld that into your system. If you have welded close to where it bolts in you may of distorted it due to the heat or may of got some spatter in the hole you could try using a tap to tap the thread out

Why dont you just weld it on if you have a welder?
Would have to grind the weld off if you ever needed to replace it.

we did just that :)

The threads on the sensor were manked, as were the threads in the exhaust, it had been crossthreaded earlier in its life, so now its just tack welded in place with a couple of little blobs.

The flexi section is still foobared though :?

cars eh?

once again maff, thanks so much for lending us the welder. I am gonna wrap the flexi bit with exhaust tape for the time being until i have enough for a new exhaust,

by the way how much i owe you for the weldy stuff?

change the lambda for one where a boss is available like the standard Bosch items .
