Is it a good idea to keep the power steering on a track and drift car?
Just trying to have a think whether the weight saving side would be a good idea or not on the silvia.

Whats your advice please?

If you remove the power steering pump and pipes you will need to change the rack to a none power steering rack. You ever tried steering a power steering car with a knackered pump or engine not running :o

Can you not just block off the intakes in the rack?
I know its bad to steer at a standstill but they are ok once moving, just wondered whether it is worth it or not really.

You can but you will find it is very hard to steer and not very safe in my opinion

I agree with Martin Ian,
A power steering car without the power will be no good.
I think you will need the power steering for drifting. Ask James.
I think some drift cars have extra cooling for the fluid as all the steering gets the fluid very hot.

The S12 Silvia was available without power steering, so you could convert it fairly easily.

Imagine turning on a hairpin at even 30 and not having power steering, I wouldn't hassle with it personally Ian. By the way, the front diffusers looked awesome :o :-D :o

You have to link the two sides of a power steering rack if the pump is removed or the wheel is very hard to turn. I noticed someone on the AE86 (Corolla GT) forum was putting PAS on his track car, as with slick tyres it was hard to steer through chicanes. His car was only around 940kg
